| This annual course is designed to provide an update of state of the art, practical approaches to the care of patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and their caregivers, for all groups of health care professionals. This year's course will focus on emerging technologies and their application to the practice of dementia care. The morning of the course will review the several emerging biomarker technologies that will impact dementia care their potential application in the diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment monitoring of dementia and its prodromal states (such as Mild Cognitive Impairment-MCI). This will be followed by an expert panel discussion of the issues involved in applying these technologies in the pre-symptomatic diagnosis of people at risk, such as children of people with dementia. |

After attending this activity, the participant should be able to:

Discuss in detail the several emerging biomarker methodologies that will impact dementia care, such as genetic testing, brain imaging, and analysis of blood or cerebrospinal fluid.

Formulate strategies to manage agitation, apathy, or problems with the inappropriate expression of sexuality in patients with dementia.

Discuss standards of care to optimize cognitive function through the use of cholinesterase inhibitors, meanantine, and psychotropic medications in patients with dementia.

Diagnosis, work up and treat normal pressure hydrocephalus, as well as general medical co-morbidities in patients with dementia.
Tuition for nurses is $90.
