| This one week intensive course is an introduction to the nurse’s role in global humanitarian relief. It is designed to give an overview of the skills needed to participate in providing health services to large populations in humanitarian emergencies. Students are introduced to methods of assessing emergency situations in the field, skills needed to develop and implement specific health programs to assist displaced populations, and tools to monitor the adequacy of the services being provided. The ethical and political implications of actions during the emergency will be discussed along with how best to internally prepare for such work and "debrief" after a trip. |
